Design Once, Reach Further...

Turn one great design into two - without doubling your workload

If you’re a knitting designer or independent yarn dyer, chances are you’ve been asked:

“Will this be available as a crochet pattern?”

Crocheters are a growing, engaged, and loyal audience - but adapting knitting designs to crochet isn’t a simple switch of tools. It requires specialist knowledge of fabric behaviour, construction, grading, and fit.

That’s where I come in.

A Collaborative Approach to Knitting → Crochet Design

I work in collaboration with knitting designers and yarn brands to create high-quality crochet versions of existing knitting patterns.

This isn’t about “crochet-inspired by” - it’s about producing a true companion crochet pattern that:

  • Respects the original design aesthetic

  • Works with crochet’s unique structure and drape

  • Meets professional pattern-writing standards

  • Opens your design up to an entirely new audience

A recent collaboration with Bow Fiddle Yarns demonstrated just how powerful this model can be: one design, two crafts, broader reach, and increased pattern and kit sales - without additional design strain on the original creator.

What I Offer

Knitting to Crochet Pattern Adaptation

I translate existing knitting designs into crochet patterns that are:

  • Structurally sound

  • Thoughtfully constructed

  • Faithful to the original design intent

This includes careful consideration of stitch choice, shaping, and garment architecture so the crochet version stands confidently in its own right.

Professional Crochet Pattern Writing

You’ll receive a polished, publication-ready crochet pattern including:

  • Clear, consistent instructions

  • Crochet-specific terminology and techniques

  • Size breakdowns and stitch counts

  • Yardage guidance suitable for kit creation

Garment Grading

Crochet behaves differently to knitting - especially across sizes. I provide grading that:

  • Maintains proportional balance

  • Supports inclusive size ranges

  • Accounts for crochet’s fabric density and stretch

A Commercially Fair Collaboration Model

This is designed to benefit both parties.

Typical structure:

  • Upfront fee: from £525
(Final fee may vary depending on garment complexity, size range, and scope)

  • Ongoing revenue share:

    • £1 per crochet pattern sold

    • £1 per kit sold

This ensures:

  • Your time and IP are respected

  • I’m invested in the long-term success of the design

  • Both of us benefit as sales grow

Why Work with a Crochet Specialist?

Crochet is not knitting with a hook.

Well-meaning but poorly adapted crochet patterns can:

  • Fit badly

  • Behave unpredictably

  • Damage customer trust in a brand

As a crochet designer, educator, and technical specialist, I bring:

  • Deep understanding of crochet construction

  • Experience teaching and supporting crocheters at different skill levels

  • A strong eye for clarity, usability, and customer experience

Your brand reputation matters - this approach protects it.
